Do I need an Insurance for Spain trips?
 
Green Card insurance to take the car into Spain - Groups A, B, C, D E : 50 euros, Groups G, H, I, J : 60 euros and Groups F, K, L, M, N, V, X : 80 euros, all payable locally.

Can I use Friends Card ?
 
The Friends Card will give you 5% discount and if you book online at www.autocarhire.net you have 20% discount.

The discounts do not accumulate.

There is any Young Driver fee?
 
Under age driver surcharge for ages 21 to 25 - Euro 6.50 per day.
You have to be at least 21 years old to rent a car.

Child seats fee
 
Child safety seats / Baby seats / Booster seats are Euros 6.00 per day, maximum Euros 84 per rental.

Additional drivers Euros 19 each per rental.

Out of hours delivery/collection fee
 
For the airport offices out of hours delivery/collection (00.00 - 07.00) is 18 Euros per rental.

The offices that are not in the airport the working hours are from 9 AM to 7 PM.
At airport offices the working hours in Portugal mainland are from 6 AM to 12 AM ( 00:00 - midnight ).

All Auto Jardim offices are opened on Sunday and Saturday.

Can I pick up a car from one location and return it to another location?
 
Yes you can. Simply specify on the booking form where and when you would like the car delivered/picked up.

For rentals LESS THEN 3 DAYS - you will pay an one-way rental tax as follows:

OPORTO - LISBON / LISBON - OPORTO = 50,00 euro
FARO - LISBON / LISBON - FARO = 50,00 euro
FARO - OPORTO / OPORTO - FARO = 100,00 euro

Do you have any electronic device that can record the tolls on highway?
 
Yes,we have an E-TOLL Device that costs 1.85 euro/day + tolls.

What is covered by your excess insurance?
 
The full excess insurance in case of accident it covers everything, after you show us the police report.
In case of paying the full excess insurance you will not loose the deposit for the car.

The insurance does not cover in case of negligence of the driver, the loss of keys, damage wheels, windshields.

Can anyone other than myself drive the car?
 
Yes but this person will need to be mentioned on the rental agreement.

How can I avoid paying the excess bail for the hire car?
 
The payment of the bail cannot be avoided.

Do I need a credit card to rent a car?
 
To rent a car in Faro, Lisbon or Porto we ask for a credit card for the payment for guarantee deposit that can be between 900 euro until 3000 euro, depending of the group of the car.

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) fee
 
PERSONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE (PAI) is available at a cost of 5 euros per day payable direct to Auto Jardim office.

You have unlimited miles in Portugal with us, as we advertise on the first page.

We don't have a credit card, can we still book and collect one of your cars at Airport?
 
Unfortunately, we need a credit card for the payment of the security deposit or of the bail. The rental can be paid in cash though.

Can we extend the rental period based upon the same discount?
 
Yes, you can extend the rental period based upon the same discount but you have to call at the Auto Jardim office to confirm the extended period.

What credit cards do you accept for payment?
 
We accept Visa, Master Card, American Express.
Online you don't have to pay with the credit card. You will receive a voucher by email and with this paper you will pay in Auto Jardim office with cash or credit card. The deposit (bail) can only be paid by credit card.

We wish to drive into Spain. What is the mileage charge when driving in Spain?
 
No there is no mileage charge but you need a insurance for Spain to do that.

How to Pay for Elelctronic Tolls for A22 Algarve Highway?
 
There are essentially 2 options; Pre and Post Pay. Pre Pay is cheaper as you do not pay a administration fee each time.

Prepay
If you have a DE (elelctronic device) then you will either pre-pay by loading an amount on to it or you will be debited automatically from your bank account as you use the tolls.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have already applied online for your DE but not received it, you will need to post Pay (as below) until you get it but if you take evidence of your application (reference number) when you pay you will not be charged the administration fee.

Postpay
If you do not have a DE then you are expected to go to a PayStation or CTT (post office) within 5 days of using the motorway, with your vehicle registration number and pay your tolls, (N.B. Only Portuguese registered vehicles can post-pay at CTT), an administration fee will also be charged. If it is not paid within 5 days then fines will also be added.

Starting with December 2011 CTT will provided, on its website Portal http://portagens.ctt.pt, a new feature that will allow users to view unpaid tolls and the date they are due.


With a beginning on December 8, 2011, the collection of tolls on the Via do Infante in the Algarve (A22) and the A23 motorway (Beira Interior), A24 (Inner North) and A25 (Beira Litoral and Alta) is exclusively electronic.

In order to use these highways the driver/user may consider the preload (prior purchase of values ​ that will be deducted on each pass recorded in the porches) and the respective electronic device purchased in the CTT (Post Office) from Faro Airport and service areas on the highways, in the case of the Algarve, only on the service area of ​Olhão on the A22.

The option to this method will be that the payment can only be accomplished within 5 working days at a Post Office (CTT) or network PayShop CTT with an additional 31 cents. If the driver/user does not choose one of these systems, theconsequent fine will be sent to the home address of the driver for payment.

In the specific case of the Algarve, on the A22 (Via do Infante) the alternative for those who want to avoid paying tolls, is the national road EN125, which is identified on signs with white background as opposed to the freeway that has a blue background.

There are 2 kind of insurances:
1. excess insurance that cover the damages of the car.
2. personal insurance that cover the medical expenses for all the people in the car

Are you open on 25th December and 1st January?
 
The offices in the airport are closed on 25th December and 1st January and on 24th December and 31st December the offices are open until 7 pm.

Opening times of the Porto City and Lisbon City branches?
 
Just Lisbon city are open on Sundays. Are open all the week from 8.30 until 20.00

At Porto city, Monday till Friday we open at 09.00 and close at 19.00. On Saturday is open from 09.00 till 13.00.

It closed on Sundays and holidays.

Can the car be delivered to my hotel rather than me coming to the office?
 
Yes, that it is possible, if the delivery hours is during the office working time (9 AM until 7 PM).
A fee of 5 euro will be charged to the client for each pick-up or drop-off away from the office.

When you do the booking online on the second page after the city name, write the exact location where you want the car to be delivered.

What are NORMAL HOURS in Funhcal Airport, Madeira ?
 
NORMAL HOURS at Funchal Airport to pick up the car hire are from 7:30am TO 12:30 midnight.

Outside our normal hours at Airports, a fee of 18 EURO be charged directly to the customer.

A22 TOLLS roads payment? If I use highway A22 in Algarve what tolls I have to pay?
 
1 - When crossing, the vehicle will be registered by the tolls in the system.
2 - The tolls have different prices, but the price for kilometer in A.22 is 9 cents.
(Ex: Route Vila Real de Santo António - Lagos - € 11.60)
3-there are 2 companies that recieve the payment ( National post office, and payshop shops)
4- the bill will only be online after 48 hours of the passage and will only stay for 72hours to be payed.
5-The companies that recieve the money can not see wich where the passages that the car had,
meaning that a car that is used by two persons on the same day they can not split the bills.
6-In case of a customer driving on the A22 on the last day of is vacation, because as it only comes online after 2 days, they can not pay the last passage.
7 - This use and the cost can not be payed to us as rent a car company, so after some time we will be notified and required by law to provide identification of the user / driver of the vehicle.
8 -The customer will be notified (with no fine) at his address for payment of uses and / or passages in A.22

From where can I pick up the car in Madeira Airport?

Our office at Madeira Airport has been transferred to Rua do Cano – Santa Cruz, located at about 4 minutes drive from the previous one.

Meet&Greet - Auto Jardim representatives in uniforms, with proper identification and holding boards displaying the names of customers, will be at the arrival hall to welcome clients.
Right in front of the main entrance/exit of the Airport, customers will be shuttled to our new office with signaled vehicles, where all formalities related to rentals will be handled.

The car return service will be conducted at the new facility and Auto Jardim shuttle will transfer the customers to the Departure hall of the Airport

Customers will be provided with a map and will also find road signs indicating the new location.
The new facility allows a faster service for deliveries/collections due to centralization, avoiding loss of time associated with the journeys on the airport premises.

Do you rent - Toll Device ?
 
Yes we have - TOLL MANAGEMENT SERVICE.

This service has the cost of €1.85 per day (inc VAT), charged up to a maximum of 10 days per rental (€18,50 Month). The value of the tolls will be debited at no additional cost to your customer’s credit card until 30 days after the end date of the rental.

The benefits of this new service, “E-Toll”, are very simple and clear:

• Facilitates compliance with Portuguese law, avoiding fines and additional administrative costs;
• Avoids stopping and waiting in queues at pay toll booths;
• Simplifies the payment of ex-SCUTs;
• Prevents unnecessary trips and waiting in queues at authorized payment authorities (Post Offices and Payshops).

When you request this service, you just need a valid credit card at rental time.
